How to Strengthen Your Application

Preparing to apply

Admission to ÐÓ°É´«Ã½â€™s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program is competitive. To give yourself the best chance:

  • 1. Aim for a strong admission average
  • 2. Know your requirements
Read the admission requirements for your preferred program option carefully.
  • 3. Book an advising appointment
If you have questions about our admission options, email our Admissions Coordinator at nursingadmissions@mun.ca to set up a meeting.

Non-nursing courses

If you are planning to apply to the BScN (Collaborative) Program, you can complete the non-nursing courses before you apply. If you still need the required biology, chemistry and math courses, you can take them alongside some of the non-nursing courses.

Completing non-nursing courses ahead of time won’t improve your chances of admission or shorten the program, but it will lighten your course load once you’re admitted.

The non-nursing courses are offered through the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and some applicants work toward a Bachelor of Arts while preparing to apply. To plan a Plan B such as a Bachelor of Arts, speak with an academic advisor at the Academic Advising Centre.

The non-nursing courses

  • Six credit hours in Critical Reading and Writing (CRW) designated courses in English
  • Three credit hours in Sociology, Anthropology or Archaeology
  • Psychology 1000, or equivalent
  • Human Biosciences 1430, or equivalent
  • Biology 3053 (Microbiology), or equivalent
  • Statistics 2500 (or Statistics 1510 or 2550, Education 2900, or Psychology 2910 or 2925), or a statistics course acceptable to the Faculty
  • Three credit hours in Philosophy, or Religious Studies 2610
  • Three credit hours chosen from any academic unit

To be competitive for admission

To be competitive for the Four-Year Option, you should have an average of 70% or higher. We use whichever is higher: your average from one semester in the calendar year before the year you’re applying for (with at least three courses completed), or your cumulative ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University average.
