Four-Year Option requirements

Required high school courses

  • Applying directly from high school
Grade 11 Biology, Grade 12 Biology, Grade 12 Chemistry, Grade 12 Math, Grade 12 English, and a Grade 12 social science or modern language course
  • Applying with post-secondary experience
Grade 11 Biology, Grade 12 Biology, Grade 12 Chemistry and Grade 12 Math

Missing a required course?

If you don’t yet meet these requirements, we recommend studying at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ for two semesters before applying. During that time, complete:

You can also take some of the program’s non-nursing elective courses during these two semesters.

WAEC or NECO applicants

If you completed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or National Examinations Council (NECO) with grades of C4 or higher in Math, Biology and Chemistry, those grades meet the nursing prerequisites. You don’t need to take these courses at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ or elsewhere. You must still meet ÐÓ°É´«Ã½â€™s general admission requirements for WAEC and NECO.

Course completion date

All required biology, chemistry and math courses must be completed by July 31, 2027. If any will still be in progress, email the Undergraduate Nursing Admissions Coordinator at nursingadmissions@mun.ca.

Admission average

To be competitive, you should have an average of 70% or higher. We use whichever is higher: your average from one semester in the calendar year before the year you’re applying for (with at least three courses completed), or your cumulative average.

Applying to the Western Regional School of Nursing

If you select Grenfell Campus on your application, nursing will not appear as an area of interest. To apply to the Western Regional School of Nursing in Corner Brook:

  • 1. Choose the ³§³Ù.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;´³´Ç³ó²Ô’s campus.
  • 2. On the next step of your application, select the Western Regional School of Nursing as your first-choice site.

Required documents

Submit all required documents by Feb. 3, 2027:

  • Official transcripts, sent to the Office of the Registrar (see below)
  • Proof of English proficiency, if applicable
  • Personal statement: optional. You’re welcome to include one, but it isn’t required.
  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry, if applicable
  • References: requested only if needed. The Admissions Coordinator will contact you directly.

Sending your transcripts

If you are applying from a post-secondary institution other than ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, send a current official interim transcript by the application deadline, Jan. 20, 2027. Once your academic year is complete, arrange for your final official transcripts to be sent too.

All official transcripts must be sent directly from your institution to the Office of the Registrar, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University. Learn how to submit official transcripts.

Transfer credits

If you are transferring from another institution, the Nursing Admissions Office will automatically complete a transfer credit evaluation once your application is received, to determine whether you meet the program’s admission requirements. Only the required biology, chemistry and math courses, and the non-nursing courses, are evaluated.

If you are admitted and want to look into your transfer credits, contact ÐÓ°É´«Ã½â€™s Transfer Credit Office at transfer.credit@mun.ca.

Admission decisions

Admission decisions are emailed to your MUNmail account, so set up your MUNmail account as soon as you can. Check your junk mail folder too, in case the email is filtered there.

Entry-Level Competencies

If you’re considering a nursing career, review the Entry-Level Competencies carefully. They set out the expectations for safe, competent nursing practice.
