Teaching and Learning:

  • In 2020,  was one of the first graduates from the Centre for Social Enterprise’s Social Ventures Incubator. Founded in 2016 by Wendy Reid Fairhurst, the group purchased 58 acres of land in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's with the intent of building around 30 homes.

Research:

  •  In 2020, Dr. Yolande Pottie-Sherman, a researcher in the Department of Geography  for her research project, New home North: Housing experiences of newcomers in Canadian Northern cities.
  • Christina Goldhar, a PhD researcher in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, . Her research investigated the relationship between housing insecurity and homelessness in the Canadian North, public policy, and governance.
  • ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ and a consortium of university-affiliated and community-affiliated researchers from Mi’kmaw communities across Newfoundland received funding for their research project titled . Their research investigates how repurposed marine biomass can develop new products and create a more sustainable future for Newfoundland and Labrador’s coastal communities.
  • Dr. Daniel Fuller, the Canada Research chair in Population Physical Activity, conducts research that will help design urban and rural environments that equitably increase physical activity for the entire population.

Public Engagement:

  • The Harris Centre Thriving Regions process was founded in 2017 to help regions plan for the future, with support from ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ research, teaching and learning, and public engagement. The process offered several workshops in each region, and provided dedicated research funding for research on priorites identified by people in each region.
  • In 2022, Dr. TA Loeffler, a professor in outdoor recreation at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½'s School of Human Kinetics and Recreation, and Kim White published a paper detailing .
  •  was founded to create projections of Newfoundland and Labrador's future demographics. Through the Harris Centre's population project, the lab created a demographic breakdown of the province, looking at birth and death rates, as well as historical migration patterns.

Administration:

  •  to help alleviate the challenge of parking on campus. These include cycling racks, public transportation, the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University Shuttle, and the Corte Real Grocery Shuttle, among others.
