Essential Courses for Dietetics Program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University and Acadia University
If you’re pursuing a career in dietetics, it’s crucial to complete the following courses at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ to ensure your smooth transition into the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (Dietetics option) program:
Required Courses at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University:
- Biology 1001
- Chemistry Courses:
- Chemistry 1050 (or Chemistry 1200)
- Chemistry 1051 (or Chemistry 1001)*
- Chemistry 2400 (Note: Completion of Chemistry 1051 is necessary before Fall of your second year to be eligible for Chemistry 2400.)
- English Courses:
- English 1090
- One Creative Writing (CRW) course, or (English 1000, 1001)
- Mathematics Courses:
- Mathematics 1090
- Mathematics 1000 (or Mathematics 1006) (Note: Students who are not required to complete Mathematics 1090 in order to satisfy the prerequisites for Mathematics 1000 or 1006 may replace it with any elective.)
- Pharmacy or Biochemistry Courses:
- Pharmacy 2002, Pharmacy 2003
- Pharmacy 2004 (or Biochemistry 2201 or Human Biosciences 2001)
- Psychology Courses:
- Psychology 1000
- Psychology 1001
- Statistics Courses:
- Statistics 2500 (or 2550)
- Statistics 2501 (or 2530, 2560)
- Arts Electives:
- Two Arts Electives (Note: Specific Arts subjects are required; refer below for acceptable subjects.)
Distance Learning Requirements through Open Acadia:
To complete your dietetics coursework, you will also need to enroll in three distance courses through Open Acadia:
- Nutrition 2323: Food and People
- Nutrition 1313: Human Nutrition 1
- Nutrition 1323: Human Nutrition 2 (Note: NUTR 2323 and NUTR 1313 do not have prerequisites; however, NUTR 1313 is a prerequisite for NUTR 1323.)

Program Notes and Requirements:
- Only ten students are admitted to the program each year, and only these students can take the three Pharmacy courses.
- A minimum grade of 55% is required in all 17 ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University courses, and a minimum grade of 70% (B-) is required in each Open Acadia course to progress to the third year at Acadia University.
- To graduate from Acadia’s program, you must complete a minor. Completing three Chemistry courses plus Pharmacy 2004 (or Biochemistry 2201 / Human Biosciences 2001) with a minimum grade of 55% will fulfill this requirement and lead to a Chemistry minor.
- Acceptable Arts Electives: Courses in Anthropology, Archaeology, Classics, Economics, Environmental Studies, Folklore, French, Geography, German, Greek, History, Law and Society, Linguistics, Medieval Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Russian, Sociology, Woman’s Studies, Spanish.
- Non-Acceptable Arts Electives: Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology, and Human Kinetics and Recreation.

Additional Information:
- A dietetics internship or practicum is required for licensing as a dietitian, with a 60-65% success rate for placements.
- To apply for the Acadia Dietetic Practicum Program, you must achieve a grade of at least B- in NUTR 1323, NUTR 1343, NUTR 2013, and NUTR 2023 at Acadia.
