Engagement at Ӱɴý

Rooted in community. Driven by purpose. Ӱɴý is one of Canada’s most publicly engaged universities, dedicated to serving and partnering with the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

What is Engagement at Ӱɴý

Engagement, also known as public engagement, is a collaboration between people and groups within Ӱɴý and those outside the University that furthers both Ӱɴý’s academic mission and the priorities of our public and community partners. Engagement includes meaningful interaction, dialogue, and collaboration that utilizes appropriate techniques with the goal of mutual learning, understanding, and societal benefit.

We use the term ‼ܲ” to refer to a broad range of people and groups outside the University, including non-governmental organizations, Indigenous groups, community organizations, industry associations, and governments.

Public Engagement Framework

The Public Engagement Framework (2012-2020) is a guiding document for people doing and supporting publicly engaged research, teaching and learning, and public and community partnerships at Ӱɴý. View the Public Engagement Framework (2012-2020)

The Framework offers a long-term vision, values, and goals, along with straightforward objectives for students, faculty and staff to work towards, both in terms of individual projects and in planning and decision-making.

The Public Engagement Framework underwent a renewal process in 2023 and is anticipated to be launched in the winter of 2026. Learn more about the renewal process.
