SUBJECT: Student entrepreneurs to compete for $10,000 cash prizes at 2019 Mel Woodward Cup

The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Centre for Entrepreneurship (MCE) will host a business idea competition that invests $35,000 in student entrepreneurs on March 28 at the Emera Innovation Exchange, Signal Hill Campus.
The 2019 Mel Woodward Cup provides prizes of $10,000 each to up to three teams of students for their innovative business ideas. Winning teams will also receive in-kind prizes related to legal, marketing, tax and professional development services from supporters such as Genesis, KMPG, Altitude Media, Gardiner Centre, Perfect Day, Cox & Palmer and the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI).
Honourable mention prizes of $3,000 and $2,000 will also be awarded.
The competition will be held from 6-9 p.m., during which time eight teams will present their business ideas and be evaluated by a panel of judges from the business community. The winning teams are expected to be announced at 8:30 p.m. Members of the media are invited to attend.
The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Centre for Entrepreneurship, based in St. John’s, aims to inspire and enable aspiring entrepreneurs. It provides inspiration, guidance, resources and an entrepreneurial community to undergraduate and graduate students at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University.
The Mel Woodward Cup was created through a donation to the Faculty of Business Administration in 2017 from the family of the late Dr. Mel Woodward, a well-known entrepreneur who founded the Woodward Group of Companies. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency also provided support for the competition, as well as other entrepreneurship-focused initiatives by MCE
