SUBJECT: PSA: Public lecture: Oil Lives

In the opening keynote lecture for Petrocultures 2016: The Offshore, Dr. Barbara Neis will address how increasing uncertainty over oil-driven job markets poses challenges for workers and local communities alike.
Petrocultures 2016: The Offshore is an international conference hosted by ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University running Aug. 31- Sept. 3.
The lecture will take place on the St. John’s campus in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, room IIC-2001, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m.
This lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. It presents an opportunity to learn about and discuss employment, mobility and the oil industry — topics that affect Canadians coast-to-coast.
Dr. Neis is a University Research Professor at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, a former Trudeau Fellow and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Her research in the sociology of work, occupational health and safety, gender and society, and maritime sociology has made her a recognized and respected name in policy development and public engagement with rural communities.
