SUBJECT: ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University graduate students host Aldrich Interdisciplinary Conference

Graduate students at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ will get to strut their academic stuff at a conference hosted by their student union.
Some 65 students from across the country will present their research during the conference, which runs Feb. 21-23 in the Earth Sciences building on the St. John’s campus.
For more than a decade, the Graduate Students’ Union of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University has organized the Aldrich Interdisciplinary Conference.
In the past, the conference has offered local students a valuable opportunity to gain presentation experience in an informal setting. This year, in partnership with various groups around ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University, the conference’s scope has expanded to a national level.
With thematic categories offered as a bridge between the sciences and the arts, this year’s conference aims to be truly interdisciplinary.
The conference begins with workshops on subjects useful for graduate students including grant writing and public speaking. It follows with presentations on topics as diverse as inbreeding of farmed cod and Gamblers Anonymous to the Tamil language and ecopedagogy.
The conference is named after Dr. Frederick Aldrich, a former dean of graduate studies at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, who is known for his love of educating the public about science.
