SUBJECT: PSA: Hawaiian culture focus of lecture at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University

ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University has turned to one of its own for its next segment of the Music, Media and Culture public lecture series. Dr. Kati Szego, an ethnomusicologist and associate professor in the School of Music at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ University, will present her lecture What’s so Funny about a Coup d’État? A deposed Hawaiian queen’s comic opera on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in room 1032 in the School of Musicon ÐÓ°É´«Ã½’s St. John’s campus.
Dr. Szego has taught at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ for the past decade. She is co-author and editor of Musics of the World’s Cultures: A Source Book for Music Educators (1998). Her research interests centre on musical meaning-making, language practices and singing, with an emphasis on Oceanic musics.
The lecture is sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in Ethnomusicology with the collaboration of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½’s Schoolof Music and the Department of Folklore.
The event is open to the public and admission is free.
